Recycling
Pledges 15/02/2006
St
Kentigern’s primary school pupils managed to collect 583 pledges
in the first month of the project, almost 100 more than the nearest rival!
Because we collected the most recycling pledges in Lancashire, Councillor
Jackson (Cabinet Member for the Urban Environment at Blackpool Council)
came to award our school with a prize.
Councilor Jackson said: “It’s wonderful to see the younger
generation learn about the long-term benefits of recycling. Well done
to all the children at St Kentigern’s who are spreading the word
to people in their family, on their street, and in their neighbourhood.
I look forward to presenting them with their well-deserved prize.”
The prize was an electric keyboard and it was presented on 15th February
2006.
Children get signed pledges from known adults who pledge to recycle household
goods in their neighbourhood. The campaign will run until the end of March
and we can benefit from the points we earn.
Children are rewarded by receiving a Recycle finger band for the first
3 pledges, for six pledges they receive a Reuse, Recycle wristband, together
with a free children's voucher for Camelot theme park in Chorley and the
Aquarium of the Lakes at Lakeside, Winderemere. The pupil who collects
the most pledges in each school will win a fantastic MP3 player.
Mrs Wygladala, headteacher
was very pleased with the surprise presentation as there are many schools
throughout Lancashire that are much bigger than St. Kentigern's, our school
serves 192 families and they have supported this scheme very well. We
are still collecting pledges and looking forward to presenting the MP3
player in March.
