Our class blog....
During National Storytelling week Reception had a visit from the local Storyteller. We loved hearing a new story and meeting Amanda from Blackpool Library.
This half term we have been learning about different fairy tales and growing plants . We have grown sunflowers, cress and radish.
We visited St Nicholas Church of England church during Christian Unity week. We compared this church to St Kentigern's Church.

Reception have enjoyed leading prayer and liturgy in our classroom.

We are all artists
We have been learning about Kadinsky and Hunderwasser. We used bright colours, we mixed our own colours and we looked carefully to create shapes.
Winter Time
We have been investigating what happens to ice, also we found out which animals like to live in cold areas.
Remember Remember the 5th of November!
Remembrance Day
We made Poppies and learnt a Poppy poem. At the end of playtime we did the 2 minute silence and thought about all the soldiers.
Sunny days are the best to ride our balance bikes!
Family Friday
We loved meeting the children's families and creating their family trees.
Goldilocks and the Three Bears
The role play was set up as the Three Bears cottage and the children loved making porridge and feeding the bear puppets. We are really good at retelling the story!
We tried real porridge too, some said it was too hot, some said it was too cold but most said it was just right.
Our first topic was linked to Oliver Jeffers story 'Here we are'. The children in Reception settled well and enjoyed a variety of space activities during their settling in weeks.
Reception enjoyed visiting Farmer Parrs.
We have been learning about 2 famous artist called Hundtwasser and Kandinsky. We mixed colours and tried to do our own version of their paintings.
Today we held our first family Friday since covid began. We loved inviting our parents into school to make their family tree painting. It is a pleasure to get to know our new families and welcome them to the family of St Kentigern's Catholic Primary school.
Today we have had a GO green day. This follows on from our virtual assembly where we learnt about us being 'the eyes of the world' and looking after the world, our common home for future generations. We made Green promises and we hope to make a difference.
School dinners are so yummy. Before we ate our meal together we said Grace to thank God for our food.

We have had a wonderful start to the school year in Reception. We have made many new friends and the children are starting to settle. Our theme has been based around the story 'Here we are' By Oliver Jeffers. Already the children have impressed us with their excellent creations.
We met a real life author this morning! Tamar gave us a very important message through her story

We loved watching 'The Wizard of Oz'
Today we used maps of the local area to see what we could find. We found lots of places of interest and identified roads, houses, schools, churches, parks, health centres and Stanley Park. The list goes on!
Virtual visit to the dentist and how to look after our teeth
Today we brought our toothbrushes and toothpaste to school and cleaned our teeth. We talked about how we should look after our teeth and even had a talk from a real dentist. Thank you Dentist Jordan!
Thank you to all the parents who sent in a video about your Jobs. We really enjoyed sharing them and made a lovely display about the people who help us!
We enjoyed learning about Queen Elizabeth and we had a Royal tea party.
We celebrated Earth day on Thursday 22nd April. We focused on plastic pollution.
Reception have been reading Super Worm! We thought about what makes us a good person and decorated stones displaying the positive words. We made personal rainbows with different words describing ourselves. We enjoyed measuring different worms in maths. Can you describe yourself positively?
Easter fun in Reception!
Our theme for Spring 2 has been New Life. We have learnt about the lifecycles of chicks, how to care for animals, the role of a vet and much more. The children in Reception loved having the chicks in class.
World Book Day 2021! The theme is share a story, Marley our school dog enjoyed a few stories in Reception. We even had a virtual bedtime story on Zoom in the evening!
Our story focus this week is The runaway pancake. We have celebrated Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday. Everyone made their Lent promise this week.
